Relevance of Magic to Life

Have you ever been in situations where your new found and practiced magic just do not go well into your performance? You can seamlessly put a quarter into a bottle and yet it is not convincing because you are in fact not using the trick in the states where the quarter is a common thing.

We occassionally fail so miserably in choosing what really works well in relation to who and where we are performing the tricks to. For example, poker deck tricks might not go well in a conservative community or people who are just out of the loop. They won't even know the difference between a spade and a club.

So something I guess it is more important to choose is what you perform rather than to learn whatever you want to perform. Ultimately it is the audience that comes first.

Magic is about breathing the mystery in you. Not about holding on to the secret of the trick. Magicians are so called "selling" this air of mysteriousness. If you leave them hanging wild, when they see you again they see you with a certain air. That's when you know you are living up to the name of a magician.

The closer to heart your magic is the better.

Thanks for the tip. It was very helpful. A really deep experience in just these articles. Or it could be this soundtrack from David Copperfield's show. Anyway, thanks for sharing this. It was helpful. For me and probably to a lot of other people.

Magic is also a study in human behavior and can teach us much about ourselves and others as well as being the ultimate icebreaker! By doing the seemingly impossible we demonstrate the possibilities of the human imagination and hopefully encourage our audience to aspire to greater levels of achievement and curiosity in life. Love the people on this site, you all are a beautifull community.

The relevance of magic to real life is best explained in David Blaine's speech "How I held my breath for 17 minutes". He starts on a personal note, saying that he always liked proving that reality isn't as simple as it seems and that that sentiment lies inside most magicians. He goes on to explain the relevance more generally. He says at one point that babies are born into the world with a sense of awe; everything to them is new, and in that sense everything to them is amazing/magical. He goes on to say that as adults, the "normal" world isn't enough to be "magical" any more. He says that magic, the art of misdirection, sleight of hand and performance rekindles this child-like awe at life .... it turns fully grown adults back into children, makes people happy, scared and amused in that brilliant child like way that we all enjoy. If you want to watch this brilliant speech by David Blaine, it is here on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFnGhrC_3Gs many thanks
